This class will focus on developing a painting from observation. Paintings will start with a broad application of color spots to capture the large light effect and to serve as a base for developing a longer, more refined work. 

Class will consist of demonstrations and one on one critiques, with topics including color theory, shape/composition, as well as building form through planar relationships and their orientation to the light.

Preview Party and Silent Auction: 2024 OA Empty Bowls Fundraiser

Tickets are $100 per person and all proceeds will go to the Food Bank of East AL.  Only 100 tickets will be sold. 
Entertainment will be provided by Preston Winkles (Keyboard) and Full Auctave and Melaudic (Acapella).
Beverages will be furnished by John Emerald and the Heritage House, among others. Appetizers will be provided by local restaurants. 
A silent auction will include handcrafted pottery, paintings, jewelry, dining experiences, yard services, a flower arranging class, massages, and at least 20 themed baskets, with items donated by local merchants.

About the Instructor
Tessa Tallakson is a classical oil painter who trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Tessa has won numerous awards for painting, including a Full Tuition Donald R. Caldwell Scholarship, the J. Henry Schiedt Memorial Travel Scholarship Award, and a Hudson River Fellowship. Tessa has exhibited in Columbus, Montgomery, Auburn, Philadelphia and New York City.
Her work focuses primarily on still life and landscape subjects as well as portraiture. Tessa is greatly influenced by classical paintings of the Spanish and Dutch Masters. Currently, Tessa lives and works in rural Notasulga, Alabama with her husband and Brittany Spaniel.

Workshop goals:
Learn oil painting materials and techniques.
Learn how to start a painting.
Learn how to get better at color mixing.
Gain confidence to experiment with paint.
Be inspired to paint on your own.
